Beneath the museum’s architecture lies a lost paradise born of the movement of the material along with the gesture of an artist that imagines a fictitious nature formed in her mind.
Elena Dahn applies plaster directly to the museum’s walls, accompanying the weight and course of the material and intervening in its descent, letting the work take shape naturally. She thus produces a wrinkled and organic horizon that seems to rest rather than expand further.
As we explore the space, we discover that the columns, an integral part of its foundation, are deformed. Diana Drake distorts and softens the support, mocking our eye’s perception. She pretends to be an alchemist, creating crystals from saline solutions that she then incorporates into the terrace’s windows, recreating the ghostliness of La Boca’s abandoned and worn architecture. Changes in the weather can produce changes in the shape of the crystals: they grow and deform, softening the rigidness of the glass.
Ivana Brenner recreates the space, coating some of its features with smooth and hard ceramic tiles from which an organic world sprouts while a strange body scales the terrace trying to form part of the museum’s landscape. It is born from the river, from the clay on its bottom, but it slips away to stick to the wall and get inside the building.
The subtle works of three artists complement and accompany one another in harmony. They use different materials to soften the building’s hard structure. Their works begin with damp materials that they steer in a process of change and growth towards a solid final state. These artists create volumetric figures whose fragile forms—apparently soft but powerful on a sensorial level—are not entirely defined.
This combination of chance, the natural process of the material, and human intervention yields an unreal, dramatic, and beautiful landscape. A romantic landscape. A state of yearning and nostalgia.
