Penúltimo episodio
(Penultimate Episode)
It’s the penultimate episode. Where the city began, the city ends. Where else but here would Buenos Aires choose to end? Only the port remains, and some outlines; everything else is extinct. Two survivors of a massive catastrophe, possibly the only ones, find an abandoned and intact garden, and take refuge in it to inhabit the end of their days; a fertile sanctuary amidst absolute destruction. Manuel and Kitty have seen it all, or almost everything, and can only lie down on the grass trying to forget it. They themselves assign the garden the role of a place of recreation, a terminal vacation setting, and also the reason to live—until something comes along and destroys them as well. The city is in ruins, yes, but the garden remains beautiful. Appreciating its beauty is useless, and yet, it’s the only meaning left. Time suspends itself, and surviving becomes both a privilege and a torture. The garden is a mirage of horror. The differences between them humanize them. The existence of the other is what saves them from madness. Each of them is left with only: this garden and their new friend. Not much more. Better take care of them as best as you can.
