Presentation

"Latinoargentina"

April 27th  June, 2024

As anthropologist Néstor García Canclini points out in his book Hybrid Cultures, the interaction between different cultures is a dynamic process that results in new forms of expression and meaning. When artists travel the world to expand their skills in residencies, workshops, meetings, and clinics, they carry with them a wealth of their own practices and knowledge that contribute to this hybridization, enriching the landscape of each receiving society and the entire social fabric of the region.

"Latinoargentina" reflects this indispensable fusion upon which global contemporary art thrives. Through a selection of paintings, photographs, drawings, installations, and videos created by twenty-five Latin American artists based in Argentina, the exhibition invites viewers to discover their creative universes, as well as the connection and camaraderie they share with their local colleagues, while also showcasing their critical observations and imaginations, forming a guide to the expression of a possible "Latin Argentine identity."

Curated by Rodrigo Alonso, the selection of works presented does not adhere to a defined theme but rather proposes, in its diversity, to broaden perspectives and readings on the artistic scene and its protagonists.

Until mid-June, the public can find the works of Rodrigo Alcon Quintanilha, Bernabé Arévalo, Virginia Bello, Karen Bendek, Emilio Bianchic, Sebastián Camacho, Julián Camargo, Macidiano Céspedes, Alejandro González, Michelle Junop, Kenny Lemes, Azucena Losana, Tirco Matute, Juliano Mazzuchini, Carelyn Mejías, Paula Proaño Mesías, Yhomara Muñoz, Mercedes Oviedo Invernizzi (Mecha MIO), Guzmán Paz, Saúl Rivas, Germán Sandoval Silva, Dani Umpi, Juan Carlos Urrutia, Pablo Vera Solari, and Piero Vicente, in the halls of PROA21.

The exhibition is complemented by a program of educational activities and can be visited from Thursday to Sunday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Av. Pedro de Mendoza 2073, CABA.
