PRESENTATION
"ARCHIVE OF DISOBEDIENCE (the street)"

May 10th 2025 - July 2025
Organized by:
 Fundación Proa
Curated by: Marco Scotini
Sponsored by: Tenaris – Ternium

From May 10 to July 2025, PROA21 presents Disobedience Archive (the street), curated by Marco Scotini. The exhibition reunites 36 video works by international artists and collectives, organized in a three-part cycle of 12 videos each, which are periodically renewed. Each phase offers a simultaneous journey through the four thematic axes that structure the project: gender disobedience, insurgent communities, radical ecologies, and diaspora activism.

Conceived in 2005 by Scotini, Disobedience Archive functions as a mobile and expanded platform that explores the intersection of art and political action through audiovisual practices. In its various exhibition formats, the project emerges as a contested space, where multiple voices coexist and interact actively with the local context. As an archive, it invites a rethinking of how collective memory is organized, challenging the notion of the archive as an unquestionable record. Disobedience is thus proposed as a methodology for complicating both the understanding and preservation of the past and the construction of the present.

Since its inception, the project has been presented over 15 times in different countries and, in 2024, is part of the Contemporary Nucleus of the 60th Venice Biennale. In each edition, the archive is reconfigured, adopting diverse forms—such as a parliament, a school, or a community garden—in an effort to move away from any static or closed conception of what an archive is.

The Buenos Aires edition engages the public space of the street and features a compelling selection of works produced between 1999 and 2023, accompanied by a public program designed to enrich and amplify the exhibited content, fostering an active dialogue with the current local context. The exhibition is thus conceived as a space for memory and analysis, as well as for encounter and knowledge.
