Sánchez’s conference, “Curatorial strategies in the frame of a museum: Mexico’s Museum of modern art, an expanding curatorial practice” will take place on Wednesday October 20, 2010 at CIA’s venue, Tucumán 3754, Buenos Aires.
He will also visit the artist studios of CIA’s scholar such as Ana Gallardo, Juliana Iriart, Tomas Espina y Mariela Scafati, amongst others.
About Osvaldo Sánchez. Curator and art critic. Bachelor in Art History from La Habana University, he was a professor at San Alejandro’s Academy and La Habana’s Art Institute, from 1984 to 1989. He was assistant manager at the Cervantino International Art Festival, visual art columnist for the Reforma newspaper (1994 and 1996) and director of the IV and V edition of the International Forum on Contemporary Art Theory (Foro Internacional de Teoría sobre Arte Contemporáneo – FITAC) (1995-1996). Co-founder and member of the Contemporary Art Patronage. Director of the Carrillo Gil Museum of Art (1998-2001) and of Rufino Tamayo Museum of Modern Art. His essays and articles on Latin-American and Mexican art have taken part of numerous national and international catalogues and specialized publications. He took part on the international program form museum managers at MoMA (Museum of Modern Art, New York) (1998). Scholar of the Mexican-American Bi-national Trust fund and, as curator, of the American Foundation (2001-2). He has given lectures at several institutions such as the Hirschorn Museum, Guggenhein, NY; Museo Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; MOCA, Los Angeles; Duke University, Bard College for Curatorial Studies, Austin University and University of California, San Diego; amongst others. Curator of inSite 2000-01, the international project for public art. Guest professor at the masters program of Cultural Contexts at the Ibero-american University, Mexico city, 2002.Artistic director of the 2005 edition of the inSite05 / Prácticas artísticas en el dominio público in Tijuana, San Diego. Member of Haus Der Kulturen Der Welt International consultant committee, in Berlin, since 2007. Currently, he is the director of the Museum of Modern Art.
