Lights in the bridge
The aim of lighting up the Puente Nicolás Avellaneda was to highlight and value the historic monument which in the first half of the twentieth century was an outstanding landmark and an epitome of the progress of our country, in keeping with its economic and social grandeur.
The Puente Transbordador is the icon of a period when cities started building impressive bridges, such as the Golden Gate (San Francisco), the Manhattan Bridge (New York), the Austerlitz Viaduct (Paris), and the Harbour Bridge (Sydney), among others.
The installation of lights gives the possibility of appreciating once again this historic bridge, which otherwise remains shrouded in the darkness of the night. Thanks to the lights, it regains its former extraordinary presence which is unlikely to go unnoticed.
This event aims to cherish the current issues and ongoing debates on the polluted and deteriorated state of the Riachuelo, and the search for a solution to clean up the basin. Therefore, it contributes to the recovery of the most important symbols of the Riachuelo which, even though it is no longer used as a bridge, remains an icon of the grandeur and progress of our city.
The ever-changing array of lights depicts the Puente Transbordador in a bright, gleaming and festive way, leaving behind its abandoned and rusty aspect, and offering a new revitalized image. |
