Proa Inclusive Space. A city for all
Fundación Proa was distinguished as an INCLUSIVE SPACE of Buenos Aires due to its fulfilment of the international standards for accessibility for people with physical disability.
At an event on May 5 at the Sívori Museum, the Secretary of Inclusion and Human Rights of the city of Buenos Aires awarded distinguished cultural institutions and businesses as INCLUSIVE SPACES.
The award was received by Proa’s representative Victoria Dotti. The official body declared that, “Fundación Proa is prepared to recieve people with physical mobile disability through ramps, doors with sufficient width for the passage of wheelchairs, non-slip floors, adapted bathroom facilities, and main access without stairs.” Moreover, the Secretary assessed that, “the furniture of the building does not present obstacles for people with visual disability and the lighting is homogeneous.”
The awarded institutions can display a stamp that identifies them as INCLUSIVE SPACES and will be part of the first edition of the GUIDE OF ACCESSIBLE TOURISM, where could be consulted the places with facilities for the disabled.
It is an honor for Fundación Proa to contribute with the development of a more inclusive city by fulfilling the internationally established measures for facilitating the access of all people to the cultural spaces of Buenos Aires.
The goal to design inclusive spaces was presented in the project by arquitects Caruso-Torricella as one of the fundamental variables in the design of the contemporary public space.
