Proa Foundation Choose Sur de Babel to be part of their activities. Both companies will work together to bring to their readers the best books.

Sur de Babel born to bring a more visible platform to the smaller, national editorials and to make room for the various authors that are usually outside of the commercial circuit.

Currently, they publish novels and short-story books but they are planning to soon publish poetry and children’s books.

The system is very simple. To be part of it, you only have to register and you will be able to receive one book each month at home at a much cheaper cost than in the regulary bookstores. In addition, Sur de Babel counts with its own catalogue from which it is possible to choose from and receive the books at home.

The  project works with thirty editorials and is in constantly expanding. Besides publishing each book in the catalogue, they interview each author and editor.

In a talk with its two creators, Josefina Heine and Victoria Rodriguez Lacrouts, they  commented that the project has thirty publishers, and is in constant expansion and also to publish new works in the online catalog, Sur de Babel make an interview with the author and the editor when a new work appears in the catalog.

This project stems from a personal concern of its creators. Both are avid readers and they usually had to invest a lot of time in bookstores trying to find interesting books. They wanted to give visibility to the smaller projects, their authors and editors.

The members of this project are very different. There are some advanced readers and others not so much, but who are still interested in receiving a monthly reading reccomendation.

The Foundation’s library is also attempting to give more visibility to independent editorials, which is why they are granting a space to to Sur de Babel to expose each month the selected work.

In June, Sur de Babel will hold live interviews in Proa, allowing to hear the thoughts of the author, that sometime gives another pespective to the readings.

The first talk was with Fernanda García Lao, author of Muerta de hambre, the selection of May.

Starting in June, Proa will participate in all live interviews, which will be followed by the author signing copies of the book for the audience.

The book will be presented in Proa Foundation on July 26th, 16 hs.

Urban Spaces: Andreas Gursky, Candida Höfer, Axel Hütte, Thomas Ruff, Thomas Struth, presents a selection of works produced by the outstanding artists from the early Eighties to nowadays.

Edited in collaboration with Ediciones Lariviere, the catalogue gives an intense remark on the developments of the contemporary city through the reproductions of the artworks, which create an intense dialogue with the essays selected for the occasion. Ludovico Pratesi, curator of the exhibition, and Paolo Perulli explain the complexity of the city life; the texts by Armin Zweite and Valeria González depict the path of the artists during their years in the Düsseldorf School, their work with the teachers, Bernd and Hilla Becher, and the contribution of their works in the international art context.

The edition is enhanced with special sections dedicated to each one of the artists, including unpublished interviews and biographies that exemplify the diversity, contradictions and complexity of the city theme through contemporary urban life.

This catalogue is intended as a fundamental piece for the understanding of contemporary art and its reflections in the present context.

The bilingual edition includes a Cd with the engligh texts.

On June 17th, more than 500 people came to the event “summa+ 100”, celebrating the launch of its 100th issue of the architecture magazine.  The guests visited all the spaces of the foundation and enjoy the current exhibitions: Urban Spaces, Corners of the Mouth and Block by Jorge Macchi.

Martha Magis, general director of the magazine and Fernando Diez, editorial director, spoke to the audience remarking how the publication achieve 100 numbers -that correspond to fifteen years of hard and creative work-, being consolidated as one of the best magazines on the architectural world.

Martha Magis concluded that this anniversary confirms the spirit of the magazine, maintaining it’s bet on the future and opening to the new challenges of the XXIst century.

Some architects present on the event honored the work of summa+ not only for the importance of its articles but also for the edition, as an exemplar publication that is very helpful for the community of architects and for readers in general.

The publication is distinguished for the great quality of its photographs and graphic information, and its impeccable edition that converts the magazine in a collectable object.

The newest number portrays, trough 100 examples, the situation of architecture in Argentina and the World nowadays.

Summa+ edits seven numbers per year and It’s distributed in Argentine, Brasil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia and Spain.

PROA TV - Chapter 5

Summa+ Magazine celebrated the start of its number 100th on Proa Foundation. The architect Mario Roberto Alvarez, one of the guests, talked with the excellent journalist Alicia de Arteaga on the doors of the Foundation.

One of the topics of the conversation between the architect and the journalist based in the work Teatro San Martín (2006), of Cándida Höfer.

This way defines the journalist Andres Hax, N Digital, Urban spaces exhibition: Andreas Gursky, Candida Höfer, Axel Hütte, Thomas Ruff and Thomas Struth. The Journalist took part of a tour before the inauguration, which was led by Adriana Rosenberg, president of Fundación Proa, Benedetta Carpi de Resmini, one of the curators of the exhibition, the photographer Facundo de Zuviría and Valeria Gonzalez, history of art researcher and specialist in photography.
