In the last years Leon Ferrari once again took up the subject of nuclear bombs and other weapons of war, with which he had worked extensively in the 80s. At that time, he used the collage technique in his works, juxtaposing photos and photomontages over figures of angels from traditional Christian iconography. In the present, he elaborates on these same subjects, but with polyurethane as his material of choice for the works. Hongo nuclear (2007) is a black object/sculpture whose symbolism refers to catastrophe and its ruinous consequences, citing the famous image of the mushroom cloud produced by nuclear explosions. With a menacing contemporary relevance, the image reminds how some countries in the world transmit their power.
