The works of Diego Perrone, an artist difficult to place in a single group or movement, evoke an atmosphere that is simultaneously quotidian and fantastical. The poetics of his works crosses a wide variety of techniques.  La stanza dei 100 Re che ridono consists of 99 representations of absolute power given shape via different personalities. Perrone’s portraits, realized through the digital retouching of portraits painted by Tiziano and other well-known painters, have something different: they are all smiling. With a simple gesture, the artist removes the layer of severity and distance so often related with figures of power: the relaxed face and outlined smile change the meaning of the works and transform the kings into common, everyday people, while king number 100 is the artist himself, symbolizing the power of art to intervene and modify the world around it.
