The Czech artist made these two works using two of his favorite technical elements: the collage and the mirror. In Non cercare la donna, Antonio Maniscalco’s photograph depicting a walking bandaged vagabond has been cut and placed in the backdrop of a reproduction of Pollaiolo’s famous Muchacha de perfil (c. 1470), as such highlighting the noble feminine profile and, by combining these two heterogeneous images in the collage, producing a strong effect. In Retrato de bolsillo, the serene and sweet face of a woman is altered by transposing the image onto a mirrored surface: the fragmentation of the face is a symbolic representation of the human condition in the contemporary world.
